About Us

Sacred Heart is a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic School which exists to serve the Catholic parish of Paignton. Pupils attend at the deliberate choice of their parents. It is therefore assumed that parents are in complete agreement with all school policies as set down and revised by governors and staff. Standards of work, conduct, appearance, etc. expected of pupils are high, and parents are expected to co-operate and support the school in the enforcing of these standards.

All current Policy Documents can be discussed with the Headteacher by appointment, at a mutually convenient time.

There are certain important differences between a Community School and an Aided School. The aims of this aided school are listed previously and comprise its Mission Statement and vision.

One important difference is that the Governing Body is the employer of the teaching staff in our school, and, with the Diocese of Plymouth, is responsible for maintaining the external fabric of the building itself. Over and above the school budget expenditure, the Governing Body is responsible for 10% of the cost of any repair and improvement to the external fabric of the school. In the past this has been borne by the Diocese, which can no longer afford to maintain this considerable outlay, whilst at the same time fulfil its Mission to the other sectors of the Church community. Therefore, in line with other dioceses throughout the country, parents at Catholic Schools are now being approached for a voluntary contribution - the suggested amount at Sacred Heart being £5 per family per term.

This fund is completely separate from the school’s budget share and the F.O.S.H. fund, which cover totally different expenditure items. Your contributions can be Gift Aided, indeed several parents already do this, and, as a result, a contribution from H.M. Inspector of Taxes is paid to the Governors as a refund on tax paid by these parents. This provides a useful source of extra revenue. Details can be obtained from the school office.
