Music

Music is a universal language that should be accessible to all, regardless of existing musical talent. At Sacred HeartĀ children of varying musical ability will grow to develop confidence and creativity whilst learning to be critical of the wide range of music they experience.

KS1 Music

Children will learn to :

  • Listen carefully and respond physically to a wide range of music.
  • Play musical instruments and sing a variety of songs from memory, adding accompaniments and creating short compositions, with increasing confidence, imagination and control.
  • Explore and enjoy how sounds and silence can create different moods and effects.

KS2 Music

Children will learn to :

  • Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
  • Continue to learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and perform with this instrument in front of an audience.
  • Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations
