Religious Education at Sacred Heart

Following the Religious Education Directory

At our primary school, we follow the Religious Education Directory, the official curriculum for Catholic schools in England and Wales. It guides everything we teach in RE and helps us support children as they grow in knowledge, faith, and love.

What is the Religious Education Directory?

The Religious Education Directory is a framework that sets out what children should learn in RE from Reception to Year 6. It helps us teach the Catholic faith clearly and in a way that is meaningful and age-appropriate.

What Does My Child Learn?

Through the RE curriculum, your child will:

  • Learn about key Bible stories and the life of Jesus

  • Explore Catholic beliefs, prayers, sacraments, and celebrations

  • Discover what it means to live out Gospel values like kindness, respect, forgiveness, and love

  • Reflect on how faith helps us make good choices and care for others

  • Learn about other world religions and how to respect people of all faiths and backgrounds

Why is RE Important?

RE is a core subject in our school, just like English or Maths. It helps children:

  • Understand who God is and how we can grow in friendship with Him

  • Develop a strong moral foundation

  • Become thoughtful, caring, and active members of their communities

  • Feel part of the Church and its mission in the world

Our Commitment to You and Your Child

We aim to make RE inspiring, reflective, and engaging for every child. As a Catholic school, our mission is not just to teach facts but to nurture faith, values, and the spiritual development of every pupil in partnership with you, the parents.

Together, we help children grow in faith, hope, and love.
