Pupil Premium and Primary Sport Grant

Pupil Premium Grant

The Pupil Premium is an additional fund allocated to schools to target inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

It was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’), children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months , and children of service personnel.
Primary PE Sports Grant

At Sacred Heart R.C Nursery and Primary School we are passionate about sports and recognise the importance that physical activity has on our children’s lives. We believe that a well organised and engaging sports curriculum helps children to develop confidence and a sense of achievement, it teaches young children how to rise to a challenge, and nurtures the character and skills that will help them get on and succeed in life.

We aim to provide a positive and engaging experience in physical education at our school. The School Sport Premium will ensure that children are physically active and excited about “sport” at Sacred Heart. As well as increasing fitness, we hope that children will appreciate team work and a healthy lifestyle. This funding provides the foundations which will allow children to develop a sporting habit for life!

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see more money going directly to headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

Our school will receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision.

Purpose of the funding

Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this.

What will we use the funding for?

The Sports Premium Funding will be used to:

  • Focus on high quality physical education for all children by ensuring bespoke curriculum support in all aspects of Physical Education for our teachers.
  • Deliver a broad variety of enrichment opportunities at lunchtime to engage all children in sport and physical activity.
  • Focus on the importance of developing a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Foster enjoyment, a sense of fulfilment and desire to participate in a variety of physical activities.
